04 Aug 10: Post 6872 Cmdr David Bowers called to say that 2X PDC Don Vlad is in Harris Southwest Hosp, Rm 5234 with lung cancer. Don said that decisions about what comes next will be made tomorrow. Our thoughts and prayers for complete recovery are with you these days old friend. 06 Aug 10: I visited Don Vlad in room 5234 at Harris Southwest Hospital and also talked with his wife Joyce. Don is not able to communicate very well because of pain and being "out of breath". I also got emails from post 6872 chaplain Henry Spells and from Don's son, Jim Jarvis explaining the seriousness & extent of Don's cancer. Don needs our prayers very much. 08 Aug 10: Post 6872 Cmdr David Bowers just called me to inform me that Don Vlad has been put on hospice and that his wife, Joyce says that he is deteriorating rapidly. Our thoughts and prayers continue for our comrade Don Vlad & family. 12 Aug 10: Post 6872 Cmdr David Bowers has sai that Don Vlad will go home with hospice care on Friday the 13th and start receiving visitors on Monday the 16th. 20 Aug 10: I have been informed that 2x PDC (96-97 & 03-04) and Captain of the Dist 21 Honor Guard for many years, Don Vlad passed away at his home at 1:30 this morning. His wife Joyce and son Jim will be making the funeral arrangements. Our thoughts and prayers of consolation are with the entire Vlad family this day and through the days to come. 21Aug 10: Don Vlad's funeral will be at Greenwood Cemetery on Mon the 23rd at 11:30 AM. Visitation 6-8 PM on Sunday the 22nd. 07 Sep 10: I have been informd that the mothers of both Dist. 21 Surgeon, Larry Burks and post 6872 chaplain, Henry L. Spells have passed on. Our thoughts and prayers of consolation are with both of these fine comrades and their families. |
